Wolf Induction Cooktop Cookware and Glass Care

Wolf cooktop safety notice — Wolf CI Induction Cooktop glass is durable but not indestructible. Heavy cast iron cookware dropped on the surface, abrasive cleaners, and thermal shock can all damage the glass. This notice covers safe cookware handling and cleaning practices that keep the cooktop glass in good condition over its service life.

Cookware selection for safety

  • Heavy cast iron: compatible and effective, but use care when placing and moving — a dropped cast iron pan can crack the glass
  • Carbon steel and ferrous stainless: compatible and lighter than cast iron, preferred for frequent movement
  • Flat base required: warped bases produce E6 errors and increase the risk of tipping during cooking
  • Size matching: use cookware that matches the zone size marked on the glass — oversized or undersized pans perform poorly

Placing cookware safely

  • Lift and place cookware, do not drag — dragging scratches the glass surface
  • Place gently, especially with cast iron — the weight concentrates on a small contact patch at first contact
  • Keep the glass clean of debris before placing cookware — grit trapped under a pan can scratch the glass when moved
  • Never place hot cookware on cold glass — thermal shock can cause stress fractures

Cleaning the glass surface

  1. Wait for the cooktop to cool to handling temperature before cleaning
  2. Use only cooktop-specific cleaners recommended by Wolf — no abrasive cleaners, no scouring pads, no steel wool
  3. Wipe spills immediately with a damp soft cloth; sugar spills especially should be cleaned while still warm (not hot) because cooled sugar can permanently mark the glass
  4. Use a razor scraper (sold for cooktop cleaning) held flat against the glass only for hardened residue — do not point the blade at the glass

What causes glass breakage

  • Dropping heavy cookware from any height
  • Thermal shock from a cold liquid spilled on hot glass
  • Cracking caused by trapped moisture beneath the glass freezing (rare but possible in cold climates)
  • Aggressive scraping with metal tools

If the glass cracks

  1. Stop using the cooktop immediately
  2. Turn off the dedicated breaker for the cooktop
  3. Do not attempt to cook on a cracked glass surface — it is a burn hazard and a water-intrusion hazard
  4. Contact Wolf service for glass replacement — the glass is a serviceable component
