Wolf Range 0E Error: Power Relay Shorted

What Does Wolf Range Err 0E Mean? The Err 0E code (sometimes shown as OE on older displays) on a Wolf Legacy Dual Fuel Range is a serious relay fault. The control board monitors the state of its power relays by reading a feedback signal, and Err 0E fires when the board expects a relay […]

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

No. A welded power relay is a serious safety issue. The oven must stay powered off at the breaker until a certified technician replaces the affected relay or control board. Do not attempt to cook with only the surface burners while the oven breaker is energized.

Can I reset the code?

No. Err 0E reflects a mechanical failure in the relay or a damaged element — conditions that cannot be cleared in software. A reset will appear to clear the code briefly but the physical fault remains and the error returns.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: Heating element glows red with no cook program active, Cavity continues heating after pressing Off.

Symptoms You May Notice

Heating element stays energized after the cycle ends

After canceling or completing a cook cycle, the bake or broil element continues to glow red because the relay contact has not released.

Oven begins heating immediately when powered on

With a welded relay, the element is electrically connected to line voltage the instant power is restored, with no user command.

Range will not allow any cook program to start

The control board refuses to run any cycle because it already detects the relay in the wrong state before any command is issued.

Possible Causes

1

Bake or broil element relay welded closed

Repeated high-current switching has fused the relay contacts so they no longer open when de-energized — a classic relay end-of-life failure.

Requires Professional
2

Heating element short to ground or to neutral

A damaged element has created an electrical path that back-feeds the relay monitoring circuit and looks like a stuck relay to the board.

Requires Professional
3

Relay drive transistor failure on the control board

The control circuit that drives the relay coil has failed in a way that leaves the coil continuously energized, holding the contacts closed.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Shut off power at the breaker immediately

A welded relay means the heating element may be energized with no user command. Turn off the 40-amp dedicated circuit at the breaker panel and leave it off until a technician arrives.

Do not rely on the control panel Off button — if the relay is welded, the board command cannot actually stop the heat.

  2. 2

    Verify the cavity is cooling

Leave the oven door closed for the first 15 minutes to let heat dissipate through the normal venting path, then open the door to check that the cavity is returning to room temperature.

If the cavity stays hot for more than 30 minutes with the breaker off, call Wolf Customer Care right away — the breaker itself may have a fault.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • Err 0E appears without any other code alongside it
  • Recent high-voltage event (surge, lightning, utility outage)
  • Range has seen heavy use including frequent self-clean cycles
